Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge

Burning. Exhausted. But I keep going climbing up and up and up Hatepe hill. “It’s a huge hill,” I mutter under my breath. ‘When is it going to end!?’ I think. I reach down to grab a drink and fill my body with a beautiful cold liquid. Exhausted, yes but delighted that I have come this far.
I eye up Chloe 200m or so in front and know I’m not going to catch her. James De Groot had completed the first leg, Barney Wardlaw completed the second and kept on going for another 40km, I (Will Tidswell) completed the third leg and kept going for another 40km as well. And Chloe O’Rorke finished the last leg. Everyone had a hard time fighting against the winds that were whipping at our numbers. The whole course was 160km and was deadly the whole way.

Finally after what seemed like forever, there in front of me was the top of the hill. Relief filled over me as the descend started…
