P.E.: Cross-Country Training

At the end of Term 2 The year 7 Sheppard have been going on training runs. The year 7 Sheppard have been doing different courses. One of them was running 3 laps around the field. The first time we did the course I got a time of... 5 minutes and 38 seconds then improved and got 5 minutes 25 seconds. After that I got 5 minutes 30 seconds. The next course was around Guthrie Brookvale Woodlands X2 which took 11 minutes and 36 seconds. The next time we ran I got a time of 12 minutes. When I ran again I got 12 minutes exactly the same.
I'm really looking forward to walking or running the proper cross-country course. We still have another 2 and a half weeks of training left til the real cross country.
Today Room 12B walked the Cross-Country course. The course was a bit shorter than expected and would have liked it to be a bit longer. We started at the rugby goal post near the houses. We then went around the block to the left after crossing the bridge and carried on to the left and went through a reserve. We then turned right and went up through the reserve. We then went down the steps into the forest and crossed a lot of bridges. We then went up the stairs and turned right when we reached the road. We went down the straight and turned left. Some of Room 12B sprinted off and the finish was just past the first basketball court.

Reading: 'Wonder' Reflection

Room 12B are reading a story called Wonder. Auggie is a kid who is deformed and someone has wrote a book based on him. I had to do a reflection about what has happened in the story so far and what I think will be coming up. You can click on it to make it bigger...

Inquiry Reflection

This term Room 12B are learning about the human machine. We each picked a topic to do our homework on. I chose asthma and learnt a lot about it while studying it.

Here are 3 things that I learnt:
  • Asthma clogs up the bronchi making it harder to breathe.
  • Other symptoms, like allergies, can cause asthma.
  • Medicine can fix asthma.
Here is 2 interesting things:

  • Running and doing exercises will actually help your lungs to be strong making it a lot more less likely of having asthma.
  • Smoking is a really likely of getting asthma because it affects your lungs.
Here is 1 question that I still haven't answered yet: How is it bad for you?

Te Reo: Te Tinana

Room 12B are learning to understand and pronounce parts of the body in maori. I have labeled where the body parts are in maori and english. I have done 15 different body parts and have learnt how to pronounce the words. I have recorded my voice and will show you what I have done. Here is my fotobable:

My Futsal Elective

For Term 2 I chose futsal as my elective. It was a fun and exciting experience and learning all the new tricks. There were 3 activities when we went to futsal. Some new tricks were challenging for everyone, but once they practiced it was easy to re-do them. My most favorite game was the futsal real game which was inspiring. I learned a lot more about futsal and the futsal skills that I did will help me more in soccer. Here is a photo of me chipping the ball up to hit the cone:

Masterton Exchange

On June Thursday and Friday, some people from HNI went over on a bus to Masterton to compete against Masterton Intermediate. On the first day I met my host named Daniel he was really nice. I then went o a bus to a lake. When we got their everybody doing the harriers (which is cross-country) walked around the lake to know what the track and course was to run. After we had walked the course the girls we went first. Sadly Masterton Intermediate came 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but HNI came fourth and fifth. After most of the girls came in. The boys started off. I was in seventh when we started off but slowly I past people and before you know it I was in 2nd. In front of me was a Masterton kid who was a year 8. After sticking with him for most of the way we left the others behind us and he started picking up speed. My legs were pumping hard to try and catch up to him but I couldn't. The finish was nearing and he was in front. I sprinted for the finish and crossed the line. I came second. Heavy breathing. Tired. Exhausted. It was a hard race.
I found my host back at the school and we went to his house. We played soccer at his house and had a delicious dinner. After having a good night sleep. I woke up the next morning and went to school to play soccer.
After getting changed into my soccer gear we started getting ready to play. The girls finished and had won 2-1. They scored in the last 5 seconds of the game. The HNI boys team went onto the field to face the Masterton team. They started off with the ball and I was a left back. That went well for me but I was soon changed up to the midfield by Mr Burnie. We were winning 4-0 at the start and soon were winning 9-0 in the second half. I was up the front and Christian past the ball to me. I took a quick snap at the goal and got a nutmeg with me left foot. When the game finished we had won 11-0. Everyone from HNI and Masterton did really well. We got changed and came back to the hall. We all sat down and listened to the results. HNI won 12 different games and Masterton won 6. HNI won overall and the teachers from HNI won against the teachers from Masterton so it was a clean sweep for HNI. After HNI had got packed up we headed for the bus. We got back to school and broke the news to everyone that we won. It was a fun and exciting experience and I did really well with my results. Everyone had a fun and exciting time.

Ode: The Brain

Brain

Oh brain, oh brain
you are, so insane
with all the knowledge that you hold
It’s hard to keep track of what you’ve been told.

You are very helpful all of the time
And also help me to do this rhyme.
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/proxy/AVvXsEjhdGWc8SlK4qT-wOlQ1rS_uIXsxYQKIEGm1YveSYfPEdILgYrq5xT1PGPPb3cxVgZffsTtM7rBv5aTHwDCBF_pCh2lkWhDwkFjnDcH7tqvjcevab8m7vMkgGRFJGlWdOCu4SUwjuN3HgNFzTo7KVhqvKvohmENj6_AmwEqpjVgje8mHDW2w-03_Wf9Chuu_0tfHDyb3urfjkezbAYou take notes and register all of my thoughts
Of all the different kind of sorts
You throw away the ones that are useless
Like bad ones and sad ones that are kind of ruthless

But when my feelings are feeling bad
You help me think of my mum and dad.
You are so thoughtful and help me think
for very brain needs a lot of ink
to write down all of your memories
such as dogs and frogs and documentaries

Oh brain, oh brain
Without you it would be like a drain
all my thoughts would go inside my head
then leak out everything that is said

I thank you so much for all that you do
Especially when you help me review.
you are so amazing, lovely and not thick
And if I got to choose you would be the first one I'd pick.

Explaining Writing: The Respiratory System

Room 12B are learning about the body. Everyone got a topic to work on. The one that I got was the respiratory system. For writing we were learning to explain what the topic is clearly. Here is my writing:

The Respiratory System

The respiratory system is a complicated name for the breathing system. Parts of the body involved in the respiratory system are the mouth, nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi and lungs. Each of these are systems but are joined together because of what they do. They all connect and make a valuable point. They all help the body breathe.

The Mouth and Nose
The mouth is a double passage way it collects oxygen and also lets out the carbon dioxide . Your nose is a two-way street; it gathers oxygen and also lets the carbon dioxide out and then it connects with the back of the throat. The nasal cavity is separated from the inside of your mouth by the palate. When you inhale air through your nostrils, the air goes into the nasal passages and enters into your nasal cavity. The air then goes down the back of your throat into the trachea and where air comes in it has to go out.

Pharynx
The pharynx (commonly known as the throat) is a sort of funnel. The pharynx has 3 different parts ‘called’: the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and laryngopharynx. The nasopharynx is the region of the pharynx found in the nasal cavity. Air from the nasal cavity passes into the nasopharynx and goes down through the oropharynx. Air goes through the back cavity and then the pharynx at the oropharynx. The air then goes into the laryngopharynx, where it is changed into the opening of the larynx by the flap. The flap is an elastic whitish tissue that is basically a switch between the trachea and the esophagus.

Larynx
The larynx (voice box) contains vocal folds which allow the body to make the sounds of speech, singing, talking and humming. The vocal folds are folds of mucous membrane that vibrate to make noise. The tightness and vibrations speed of the vocal folds can be changed. The cords are changed to change the pitch that they are making letting sounds out that can go higher and lower.

The Trachea
Next, air travels up and down the trachea (windpipe). It then splits when it reaches the lungs. The trachea first starts in your neck where it receives the oxygen from the mouth and the nose then transmits the air down the windpipe.

The Bronchi
The trachea divides into a right and left main bronchus. Each major bronchus then divides again into smaller airway passages referred to as bronchi. As the airway passages make their way out to the lung tissue, the passages become smaller and are known mostly as bronchioles. Eventually the bronchioles stop into small collections of air sacs known as alveoli, which is where the actual exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen occur.

The Lungs
The lungs are the biggest organs for the breathing system. When we breathe in oxygen is taken into the body and when exhaling carbon dioxide is expelled from the body and carbon dioxide is breathed out. What the lungs do is take a gas that your body needs to get rid of which is carbon dioxide and exchange it for a gas that your body can use which is oxygen.

Summary
Air goes into the lungs and nose which flows through the pharynx and larynx. The air then goes down the trachea and splits left and right once reaching the bronchi. After the air reaches the air sacs it continues into the lungs. When the air reaches the lungs the carbon dioxide moves out and comes out of your mouth and nose.

P.E. Large Ball Skills

Room 12B has worked on understanding the rules and skills of all the large ball skills. We have worked on knowing what to do. I needed to improve on understanding the netball positions. Down below is my Large Ball Skills Self Assessment.
