Yesterday we went out and put this knowledge into practice.
Flynn and I went out and measured the soccer goal post and this is how we did it. First we got a friend, tape measure and a pencil. We asked one of the friends to stand in front of the goal post's leg. Next we held our pencil arm lengths vertically to the ground and walked backwards. After the top of the pencil was at the top and the bottom was on the ground. Then we turned the pencil horizontal and asked the friend to walk sideways after reaching the end of the pencil we asked them to stop and then measured how far out they were from the post. We then measured how high the goal post was and compared our answers. Our answer using the method was 241.5cm but the real height was 240cm. Then we tried the rugby post we used the same method. Here is a photo of Flynn and I attempting to use the method.
