Differences In How The Pakeha And The Maori Saw The Treaty Of Waitangi

Through Pakeha Eyes
Through Maori Eyes
To Get more Land for their country.
Seen as a spiritual relationship between Queen Victoria and the Maori chiefs.
Was just a piece of paper with some signatures on it.
Wanted the land to stop being sold.
To settle down, stop fighting and have peace.
Stop all the wars and fights that were happening.
An agreement of trust and help.
Have a fair right to more modern technology.
The treaty was interpreted by Pakeha getting more land, and more places to own.
To trust one another and have protection from the queen.
The English interpret the treaty as more money but are now more serious about it and are giving land back for the maori’s rights.
The treaty was interpreted wrong and the maori’s were getting angry about not having their rights.
More land to own and stop others from wanting the land  that they had found such as French men.
The maori’s were angry that their land was getting sold to others which had their great great grandparents buried on.
