ANZAC Diary Entry

Room 10 have done a diary entry pretending to be a soldier on the 1915 Gallipoli beach. We started it just before or when we arrived on the beach and described what the scenes were like around us.

24th April 1915
We’re drawing near. The captains are leaving clues such as staying in our clothes when going to bed and land on the right. We’ve been playing heaps of card games and those have been entertaining us for the 6 weeks we’ve been on.
25th April 1915
The bullets are whizzing all around. It’s incredible to think that out of everyone who didn’t make it my brother and I did. We’re already on our notebooks hidden underground in a trench.
28th April
I haven’t wrote anything for a while but we’ve been shooting all day everyday and 20 minutes ago I have been asked to go over the hills with a bunch of men and try and kill the Turk’s. I’ve got ready and we are leaving today.
29th April 1915
We’ve exceeded up through the hills and pushed the Turk’s back. The Turks have mowed us down but we’ve holding our position. I’ve stabbed 7 turks so far just wondering how that would feel is horrible. The blade piercing your body and reaching into your heart, the look on their faces are unforgettable. No one really cares about you much it’s more all about what’s happening next where we are at in position and how many troops they had lost. I’ve already been woken up twice in the night from the turks firing another attack of soldiers.
30th April 1915
I’ve survived another day of torture over the night 66 of the ANZAC soldiers have been deceased and it’s only 4 of us left. My brother, commanding officer Jeff and Sam. We’ve been passed by many Turks that haven’t seen us, then shot them in the back. The sun beats down it’s rays of powerful light and my skin is shriveling like a prune. We’ve ran out of water 8 times today and have taken some from the dead Turks. The group back on the shore think that we’re dead.
1st May  1915
Right now we are at one of the Turks camps about 100metres away. There’s around 80 of them and Jeff says we’re going to take them on. We’ve sorted out a plan. I’m going to go high and shoot as many as I can because they’re all in a single area. Then I’m going to stop shooting after 100 shots and my brother, Jeff and Sam are going to come in and kill everyone. It’s a long shot but I hope it works.
I’m out of ammo and there are only 5 left coming for me, my legs are blown off  and Jeff, Sam and my brother are trying to catch up to the Turks but they won’t get there in time. This is my last diary entry they’re going to kill me but if i’m going down ones going dow
