Matahiwi Marae

On the 22nd of June the year eights all went to Matahiwi Marae and learnt a lot more about how the Maori acted and what they did. After visiting we then recorded information about what we learnt:

1. That Maui had four brothers and he hated them.
2. That only babies are allowed to eat in the wharenui.
3. If above the entrance to the Wharenui was a girl and the marae was under attack any boy going out of the entrance would have to be blessed before he could go and fight, but by then it might be too late.

Something that impressed me was: The carvings and weaving because everything told a different story, and also how the stories were told and remembered.

Something that I would have liked to have known was: Why were dead people not allowed in the door of the wharenui if there was a woman on top?
